Russia expels 5 diplomats working in Sweden Embassy

Moscow: Russia’s Foreign Ministry has said that Russia has expelled five diplomats working at the Swedish Embassy in Moscow. A news agency reported that Sweden’s ambassador, Malena Mard, had been summoned to the ministry, and informed that Moscow had decided to expel five Swedish diplomats, including those working at the Defense Attache’s Office at the Swedish Embassy in Moscow. Including 3 employees. It said the decision was a response to Sweden’s expulsion of five Russian diplomats earlier.

According to the ministry, the five diplomats will have to leave Russia by the same deadline that Sweden has set for the departure of Russian diplomats. The Ambassador was also informed about Russia’s decision to cease the activities of the Consulate General of Russia in Gothenburg with effect from 1st September, 2023. And also from September 1, 2023, Russia withdraws its consent to the activities of the Swedish Consulate General in St. Petersburg. Sweden expelled five employees working at the Russian Embassy in Sweden on 25 April. The Swedish Foreign Ministry said the diplomat was engaged in illegal activities.
